Bedient Opus 77

The organ was built in Lincoln, Nebraska, in August 2004 with delivery to Seattle in June 2005. It took approximately 2,500 hours of labor to make all the wooden and metal parts and assemble the organ at Lincoln. The types of wood used include mahogany for the case and pipes, poplar for pipes, ebony for keyboard accidentals, linden (basswood) for pipe shades, white oak for internal structure and pedals, moridillo for pedal accidentals, cocobola for stopknobs and walnut for the keydesk. T
he metal pipes are an alloy of 2% tin and 98% lead. The façade pipes feature 23-karat gold-leaf gilding around the mouths. The design of the pipe shades was influenced by drawings of Jacques Stella, a French Baroque painter of the 1600’s and features an acanthus leaf and shell motif. Connections between keyboards / pedals and pipes use electric, pneumatic and mechanical solutions. The organ weighs about 3,500 pounds.
